Journalism in general

i just think it is very interesting to note how Journalism has evolved devolved throughout time... As i read the article i realized that no matter what happens Journalists of every kind whether they be acreditted writers or tabloid writers prefer to entertain. Lets be honest with ourselves. We prefer ( and I include myself) to watch our cartoons and reality TV and play video games. No one wants to talk about a disturbing or upsetting topic for as long as it can be avoided and it mademe wonder how much we as a nation choose to ignore because a topic is too heavy for us to handle...

I understand where you are coming from and I think a lot of people in class (including myslef) agree with the fact that sometimes we just don't want to think about all the bad things going on in the world. But I also think we need to step back and not bash ourselves so badly, because if we really never wanted to know about these things, then nobody would ever go to college. All of us signed up for a class titled Lit&Politics, whether we really knew the subject matter or not, we all had a drive within to become more aware of the world around us.

I think its ok to want to watch our reality TV (as stupid as it can be at times), and our tabloid maazines, and Soap Operas. Because life would be very borning and stressful if we could detach for a little bit and the realization that humans are not perfect.

I mean, if we are going to pick on what we watch, then we mine as well pick on what we read, should we only limit ourselves to non-fiction literature, meaning no more fun harliquines, Meg Cabot, Tom Clancy guilty pleasures?

Just my thoughts. I agree that we need to be more informed on what is going on throughout the world, and push to educate our children to learn about things from different points of view, but not at the cost of loosing some of lifes pleasures!
